About Age Spot Treatment

Age spots, also known as liver spots or sun spots, are flat brown, gray, or black spots on the skin. They vary in size and usually appear on areas exposed to the sun, such as the face, hands, shoulders, and arms.

Causes

  • Sun Exposure: Ultraviolet (UV) light accelerates melanin production. Age spots develop when melanin becomes clumped or produced in high concentrations
  • Tanning Beds: Exposure to commercial tanning lamps and beds can also cause age spots
  • Aging: As you age, the production of melanin becomes less regulated, leading to age spots

How It Works

  1. 1Topical Creams: Products containing hydroquinone, glycolic acid, or retinoids can help fade spots over time
  2. 2Cryotherapy: Freezing age spots with liquid nitrogen
  3. 3Microdermabrasion: A procedure that sands off the top layers of skin
  4. 4Laser Therapy: The xeo® laser gently breaks down melanin and helps rejuvenate skin without invasive procedures

Frequently Asked Questions

Do age spots come back after removal?

Once treated, those specific spots typically don't return. However, new spots can form if your skin is exposed to the sun without protection, so daily SPF is crucial!

How many sessions to clear my spots?

Many spots fade significantly after just 1-2 treatments. Darker or older spots might need a few more sessions for complete clearance.

Does the laser treatment hurt?

You might feel a quick snap, like a rubber band, but the discomfort is very brief. We can also use a numbing cream to ensure you're completely comfortable.

Is it safe for my skin type?

Yes, our Cutera xeo® laser is FDA-cleared and can be adjusted to safely treat pigmentation on a wide variety of skin tones.
