BeautiFill in Palmdale and Encino
The interesting paradox is that as we age, it seems we lose volume in areas we want it and gain it where we don’t. What if you could do something about this naturally — taking fat from where you don’t want it and returning it where you need it?
You can. It’s called BeautiFill™, and Dr. Motlagh now offers this revolutionary procedure that combines liposuction, laser skin tightening, and fat transfer into a single procedure. BeautiFill™ provides natural-looking results that endure.
What is BeautiFill?
BeautiFill™ is a laser-based system that combines liposuction, skin tightening, and fat grafting into a single treatment…all in just a single appointment. BeautiFill™ uses a proprietary laser system engineered to loosen and harvest live fat cells from common problem areas such as the abdomen, hips, flanks, and thighs. This fat is then re-injected into areas where volume loss has occurred, such as the cheeks.
What are the three aspects of a BeautiFill™ treatment?
These treatments deliver three results for Dr. Motlagh’s patients:
- Body contouring — Liposuction removes the unwanted fat from areas such as the abdomen or the flanks.
- Skin tightening — The laser energy delivered from the cannula initiates a skin tightening response in the skin.
- Fat transfer — The harvested fat is injected into areas where volume has been lost, such as the cheeks, with a very high success rate.
What are the benefits of BeautiFill?
This is a closed system of liposuction, laser skin tightening, and fat transfer that can all be performed in a single office visit with Dr. Motlagh. Patients love that they can use their own fat to fill areas where they’ve lost volume. Usually they would be looking at using dermal fillers, but fillers are only temporary, lasting from 6 to 9 months. Fat, once it acquires a blood supply, will take permanently.
BeautiFill™ is excellent at removing and preserving fat cells that have a high viability for successful transfer. This has always been the problem with fat transfer in the past — there was no way to have confidence in how much fat would “take.” Because BeautiFill™ uses a closed system and removes the fat with gentler laser-assisted liposuction methods it’s average survival rate for transferred fat is 95 percent. This contrasts to the typical fat transfer success rates of 60-70 percent.
The other benefit is BeautiFill’s laser energy applied under the skin of the liposuction areas. When the body senses this energy in the dermis layer (the skin’s layer between the outer epidermis and the fat layer), it thinks the body has been wounded. As a response it produces new collagen and elastin to “heal” the perceived wounds. This tightens and firms the skin, which is the perfect way to tighten down the skin over the areas that have had liposuction.
Am I a candidate for BeautiFill?
Pretty much anyone over the age of 40 could really benefit from BeautiFill™. We’ve all accumulated areas of stubborn fat, such as on our lower abdomen. That’s perfect for BeautiFill’s laser-assisted liposuction. We’ve also lost volume in areas such as our cheeks, along our chin, below our temples, and other areas on the face. BeautiFill’s purified fat taken from liposuction can then be injected into these areas to return volume.
How is BeautiFill performed?
BeautiFill™ is a simple in-office procedure with Dr. Motlagh. The first step is to inject tumescent solution (a mix of saline solution, lidocaine, and epinephrine) across the liposuction area, generally the abdomen, hips, flanks, or thighs. The saline helps to slightly swell the skin; the lidocaine anesthetizes the area; and the epinephrine constricts the blood vessels and the fat cells, making the fat easier to remove. Dr. Motlagh then inserts the cannula. It delivers laser energy to gently loosen the fat cells. They are then harvested by the cannula. The laser energy has a couple different immediate benefits. First, it cauterizes blood vessels, which minimizes bleeding and subsequent bruising, hallmarks of traditional liposuction procedures. Without the trauma and bleeding, patients recover much more quickly. Second, it helps loosen the fat cells for removal by the cannula.
The harvested fat is immediately filtered and stored in the BeautiFill™ system. The gentle laser-assisted energy combined with the fat cells being undisturbed makes for an incredibly successful rate of fat vitality. This isn’t an empty promise — in clinical testing, BeautiFill™ achieved fat vitality rates over 95 percent.
The harvested fat is then taken from the BeautiFill™ storage area and placed into individual small syringes. Dr. Motlagh then injects this fat into areas where the patient has suffered volume loss, such as the cheeks, areas around the mouth, the jowls, undereye hollows, and the breasts. If larger amounts of fat are removed, it can be injected to augment the buttocks.
How long does a BeautiFill procedure take?
These treatments are an efficient process. For most patients, these procedures with Dr. Motlagh have been taking around an hour. That can vary if you’re having larger areas treated.
Will I need more than a single BeautiFill treatment?
These are single procedures.
How long will my results last with BeautiFill?
These are permanent changes. BeautiFill’s liposuction component removes fat cells permanently. They are gone for good. Fat transfer is also considered to be permanent or very long duration. As mentioned above, BeautiFill has an incredibly high rate of fat transfer success, as 95 percent of the transferred fat “takes.
The only aspect of BeautiFill™ that is not permanent is the skin-tightening component, as the increased collagen and elastin production lasts for a period of about three months. Your skin will naturally have tightened back down over your slimmer contour created by the liposuction by that time and this should remain firmer and slimmer.
What is the recovery like after these procedures?
Recovery is minimal. Because the laser-assisted cannula doesn’t have to be moved about to break loose the fat cells, there is only minimal disruption under the skin in the treatment areas. This limits bruising and trauma to a degree that most patients can return to work or normal activities in just a day or two. The areas where the fat is injected don’t require a recovery. There can be some slight bruising at the liposuction sites and the injection sites, but it runs its course in a week or so.
Is BeautiFill safe?
This is a very safe procedure. Remember, you’re only using your own fat. Liposuction removes it into a closed, sterile system where the fat is purified. Then that purified fat is injected where you want it: your face, your buttocks, or your breasts.
There is a slight risk of infection, but the system’s protocols make that a very low risk.
