Sclerotherapy Lets You Show Off Your Legs All Summer
Do you avoid wearing shorts or a bathing suit during the summer because you are embarrassed or uncomfortable with the way your legs look? Many women develop varicose veins and spider veins after pregnancy or after years of working in jobs that keep them on the go. But there is an easy fix for varicose and spider veins in your legs that will have you bikini ready in no time: sclerotherapy.
What Is Sclerotherapy?
Sclerotherapy is a specialized procedure designed to minimize the appearance of varicose and spider veins. Using a small needle, a substance called sclerosant is injected into the vein, causing it to disappear or become nearly invisible. The body automatically reroutes to healthy blood vessels, allowing the veins to be reabsorbed. After the procedure, you may experience some slight bruising or stinging. In some cases, you may have leg cramps, but this is rare. Any discomfort will dissipate soon after treatment. Most patients can return to work right after the procedure. You may be required to wear compression stockings.
New Sclerotherapy Treatment for Larger Veins
Some patients may be candidates for a new minimally invasive sclerotherapy technique that uses a catheter and ultrasound for the treatment of larger veins. In some cases, you may be able to receive vein treatment using laser therapy instead of injections. To learn more about your treatment options, the first step is a consultation with spider and varicose vein doctor Dr. Katayoun Motlagh.
Advantages of Sclerotherapy
While promoted as a cosmetic solution for unsightly veins, sclerotherapy can also be used to treat varicose veins in patients who are experiencing pain or discomfort as a result of the condition. Shrinking varicose veins with sclerotherapy makes them less visible and less painful. Malformed lymph vessels can also be treated with sclerotherapy.
