XEO Machine: Age Spots / Sun Damage
Age spots are a common issue, and this tell-tale sign of aging and sun exposure isn’t something you look forward to seeing. They can appear as dark splotches on your face, hands or other areas that are exposed to the sun, and rather than let them make you look and feel older, you can receive XEO machine treatment to help eliminate them.
In this blog, Dr. Katayoun Motlagh, a family medicine doctor who specializes in skin care in Palmdale and Encino, California, explains how an XEO machine is effective in treating your age spots:
What are age spots?
Age spots are flat, oval areas of pigmentation that can appear on your body. They are usually tan, brown, or black and can range from freckled-sized to ½ inch in diameter. This type of blemish is often seen in people who are older than age 50 but can be even seen in childhood.
They form when the surface layer of the skin expands with more pigment. Age spots aren’t cancerous, and they don’t lead to cancer. However, it’s important to consult a doctor to check spots on your skin so you don’t mistake a skin cancer lesion for an age spot.
How does sun damage affect age spots?
Sun damage can make age spots much more likely to develop. That’s why they’re usually seen on areas of the body that receive the most exposure to the sun, such as your face and the backs of your hands. Having a history of sunburns or using tanning lamps and beds can increase your risk of getting sun spots.
What is the XEO Machine, and how can it help improve appearance of age spots and sun damage?
The XEO machine is a revolutionary type of solar genesis machine – a treatment system that delivers visible pulsed light. It can be customized to adjust the laser wavelength and energy delivered to address your age spots.
This machine treats age spots effectively because the light is selectively absorbed by the area that’s being treated. As a result, the pigment is drawn out and sloughed, which eventually eliminates the spot.
It takes just a few minutes to be treated with the XEO machine, and it’s so comfortable that no topical anesthetic is needed before your treatment. As with other types of age spot treatments, you’ll need to be diligent about wearing sunscreen every day after your XEO treatment. Covering your skin with clothing can help protect it, as can using a broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen with an SPF (sun protection factor) of at least 30.
What XEO hand pieces can be used for and what benefits do they offer?
The XEO machine offers different hand pieces so your doctor can select the one that will best address your specific needs. They include the following:
- LimeLight: can be customized for different skin tones and aging conditions to help treat age spots and other pigmented lesions. It also helps balance color and improve your complexion.
- AcuTip: treats individual sun spots (as well as other issues such as spider veins) with a cooled tip. Its size makes it effective for removing age spots on small areas of your face such as your nose or chin.
YAG: has a laser genesis function that can help improve tone, acne scarring, and redness
Prowave: helps treat for laser hair removal, specifically those with fair skin.
